conclusions the serum levels of il-17, but not il-8 and il-18 may serve as a potential biomarker for diagnosis and predicting the prognosis of gastritis caused by h. pylori. objectives the current study aimed to obtain evidence regarding the association between il-17, il-8 and il-18 expression in peripheral blood and h. pylori infection in mongolian gerbils. materials and methods mongolian gerbils were inoculated with h. pylori by a metal stomach catheter. after sacrifice, their gastric mucosae were examined in macroscopic, histological and electron microscopy levels. in addition, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (elisa) assay was performed on the il-17, il-8 and il-18 cytokines in the blood samples. results serum levels of il-17, il-8 and il-18 were remarkably up-regulated compared to those of the control group. there was an obvious correlation between the increase of il-17 and the serious extent of gastritis in the current study. however, the serum levels of il-8 and il-18 without getting increasingly more for repetitive intragastric administration. there were plenty of neutrophils infiltrating in the infected group mucosal. intestinal metaplasia and gastric ulcers were also founded in h. pylori infected animals after enhanced inoculation. the edema, degeneration and necrosis changes could be found in organelles by transmission electron microscopy. more serious pathological changes were detected in the enhanced inoculation groups compared to the cycle group. background persistent helicobacter pylori infection confers an increased risk for serious illnesses such as peptic ulcers and gastric cancer. various cytokines are involved in the regulation of inflammatory immune response in h. pylori-infected gastric mucosa.

Association Between IL-17, IL-8 and IL-18 Expression in Peripheral Blood and Helicobacter Pylori Infection in Mongolian Gerbils

BACKGROUND Persistent Helicobacter pylori infection confers an increased risk for serious illnesses such as peptic ulcers and gastric cancer. Various cytokines are involved in the regulation of inflammatory immune response in H. pylori-infected gastric mucosa. OBJECTIVES The current study aimed to obtain evidence regarding the association between IL-17, IL-8 and IL-18 expression in peripheral...

Regulation of IL-18 in Helicobacter pylori infection.

The gastric mucosal immune response is thought to be comprised predominantly of the Th1 type; however, there are limited data regarding the role of IL-18 in Helicobacter pylori-induced inflammation. We investigated IL-18 levels in gastric mucosal biopsy specimens as well as in isolated gastric epithelial cells and lamina propria mononuclear cells. We also investigated IL-18 levels in gastric ep...

Cytokines (IL-17, IL-23, and IL-33) in Systemic lupus erythematosus in Trinidad and Tobago.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common autoimmune disease. It is characterized by the presence of hundreds of autoantibodies against many organs and tissues, including the presence of a large number of autoantibodies, which are specific to self-antigens mainly of nuclear origin such as Smith antigen, double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), anti-Sjögren’s syndrome-related antigen A and B (SS...

Serum levels of iron parameters and IL-17 in children with Helicobacter pylori infection compared to healthy group

Helicobacter pylori is related to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and inflammatory responses causing gastric and duodenal ulcer and carcinoma. Moreover, it leads to deficiency of factors associated with iron adsorption and transfer. In the present study, we recruited 100 children (50 infected with H. pylori and 50 controls) aged 3-14 years old (40% male and 60% female) to evaluate the effect of H....

IL-6, IL-10 and IL-17 Gene Polymorphisms in Iranian Women with Recurrent Miscarriage

Background: Pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines and polymorphisms of their genes have been described to be involved in the pathogenesis of recurrent miscarriage (RM). Objective: To investigate the association between RM and five polymorphisms of cytokine genes, interleukin 10 (IL-10), (-592 A/C, -819 C/T, -1082 A/G), IL-6 (-174 C/G) and IL-17 (-197 G/A) in Iranian women. Method: Po...

Up-regulation of IL-17 is associated with bioactive IL-8 expression in Helicobacter pylori-infected human gastric mucosa.

Helicobacter pylori (HP)-associated gastritis is characterized by an increased number of acute and chronic inflammatory cells secreting cytokines that contribute to maintain and expand the local inflammation. Locally induced IL-8 is believed to play a major role in the HP-associated acute inflammatory response. Factors/mechanisms that regulate IL-8 induction are, however, not fully understood. ...
